Getting Started with Paydel
Your first order can be up and running in about 5 minutes.
Paydel is designed to help your team handle what happens after the sale — without every delivery depending on you.
In this quick guide, you’ll:
Create your business → Invite a rider → Create an order → Assign it → Complete the delivery
By the end, your rider will be ready to manage a real Paydel order from their phone.
Step 1 — Create your Paydel business
Go to paydel.co.ke and create your account.
Once you’re signed in, complete your basic business setup.
You’ll be asked for information such as:
- Business name
- Contact details
- Business location
- Relevant business information required for your account
This creates your Paydel workspace — the place where your orders, riders, payments and delivery activity come together.
Before you continue
Make sure the business details you provide are accurate, particularly your contact information.
Some financial features, including withdrawals, may require account verification and KYC before they are enabled.
Time: about 1 minute
Step 2 — Invite your rider
You do not need to stop using your own riders to use Paydel.
Inside your Paydel account, go to your Team/Riders section and choose:
Invite Rider
Enter your rider’s details and send the invitation.
What happens next?
Your rider receives an SMS inviting them to join your Paydel team.
They follow the link, complete their setup and can then receive orders assigned by your business.
Once connected, you can use the same rider for future deliveries without having to set them up again.
Why this matters
Instead of coordinating every delivery through phone calls and WhatsApp, your rider now receives the information they need through Paydel.
Time: about 1 minute
Step 3 — Create your first order
Now create a real order.
Choose Create Order and enter the customer and order details.
Depending on the order, this may include:
- Customer name
- Customer phone number
- Delivery location
- Items being sent
- Quantity
- Item value
- Delivery fee
- Payment method
- Any delivery instructions
If you are sending the customer several options, add the individual items so the rider can later record exactly what the customer keeps.
Example
A customer orders:
- Black dress — KSh 3,500
- Beige dress — KSh 3,500
- Delivery — KSh 350
Instead of treating this as one vague KSh 7,350 delivery, Paydel knows which items are actually travelling with the rider.
That becomes important at the customer’s doorstep.
Time: about 1–2 minutes
Step 4 — Assign the order to your rider
Once the order has been created, select your rider.
Tap:
Assign Rider
Choose the rider you invited earlier.
The order now appears in the rider’s Paydel experience with the information they need to complete the delivery.
You can see that the order has been assigned and follow its progress from your side.
No separate WhatsApp message with the customer’s details.
No calling the rider later to remind them what they are carrying.
Everyone is working from the same order.
Time: about 30 seconds
Step 5 — Let the rider complete the delivery
This is where Paydel starts taking you out of the middle of the order.
At the customer’s location, the rider works from the assigned Paydel order.
Depending on the order and payment method, they can record the outcome of the delivery and complete the required payment or verification steps.
If the customer keeps everything
The rider completes the order and the delivery status updates in Paydel.
If the customer only keeps some items
This is where Paydel becomes especially useful.
Using our earlier example:
The customer receives two dresses but decides to keep only the black dress.
The rider records:
Black dress — Kept ✓
Beige dress — Returning
Paydel now has a clear record of:
- What was sold
- What should be paid
- What should come back to the business
There’s no need for the rider to call and ask:
“Boss, customer amesema anachukua black tu. Analipa how much?”
Payment prompting at the doorstep
For supported Paydel payment flows, your rider can initiate the customer’s payment process while they are still at the point of delivery.
So instead of:
Rider calls you → you calculate the amount → you send payment details → you check payment → you call the rider back
the process happens through the order itself.
Once payment is successfully confirmed, the order and payment record remain connected inside Paydel.
The result?
Fewer:
- “Has she paid?” calls
- Payment screenshots
- Manual calculations
- Payment-reference confusion
- Riders waiting for you to confirm what happened
And much more visibility for the business.
What you can see from your side
While your rider completes the delivery, you can keep visibility over the order from Paydel.
Depending on the stage of the order, you can see information such as:
- Order status
- Assigned rider
- Delivery progress
- Payment status
- Items selected by the customer
- Items returning
- Completed deliveries
The goal is simple:
You shouldn’t have to call everyone involved just to know what happened.
Congratulations — you’ve completed your first Paydel order
That’s it.
You’ve now gone from:
Order → Rider → Customer → Payment/Outcome → Completion
inside one connected workflow.
Your next order becomes even easier because your rider and business are already set up.
Create your next order
The more your team uses Paydel, the less your operations have to depend on calls, memory and manual follow-up.
Your 5-minute checklist
- Create your Paydel account
- Complete your business details
- Invite your rider
- Ask the rider to accept their SMS invitation
- Create your first order
- Add the individual items being delivered
- Assign the order to your rider
- Let the rider complete the delivery through Paydel
- Check the completed order from your dashboard
Before withdrawing funds
Businesses using Paydel’s wallet and withdrawal features may be required to complete verification before withdrawals are enabled.
This can include:
- Identification
- Required KYC documentation
- Signed Paydel Merchant Agreement
- Any additional verification requested for the account
Once your account is approved, you can request withdrawals of eligible Paydel funds according to the applicable processing timelines shown in your account and Paydel terms.
Need help?
If you get stuck anywhere during setup, contact the Paydel team from the support options available in your account.
We recommend starting with one real order.
Once you see your rider complete the workflow from their side, the value of Paydel becomes very clear.
